Writing Faire

Yesterday we went to the Campbell Public Library for the 29th Annual Richard Ullman Writing Faire to see Andrew's writing on display! His story was chosen by his teacher because she said it is "the best of the best". The teacher from next door said upon reading his work, "this one will be a writer some day". We are all so proud! Here is the author himself standing next to his work.

Here is a close-up. I am also so pleased with his handwriting. It has really improved this year.

The whole family turned out for the event.

And for your reading pleasure, here is a transcription of the entire story.

My Whale

One sunny day at the edge of Heartville a big wave rose out of the water. From my window I saw a whale spring out of the water. I quickly got my swimming suit and ran outside.

I jumped into the water. It felt cold and damp. I put on my goggles and I held my nose. Then I put my head in the water and I looked around. I saw the whale. I quickly swam to it. Then I got on it. It was soft and gray. It spun around.

I wanted to keep him but how can I fit the whale into my house. I thought for a minute, but I remembered. I was riding a whale. So I quickly held my breath. Then I had an idea. I got off the whale. I would build a wall around the whale so he couldn't get away.

First, I got some blocks. Second, I got some glue. Then I went back in to the water. I went very far into the ocean. I set the blocks down and glued them together. I looked around.

I said to myself, "What a very fine swimming pool".

Now I can ride my whale whenever I want. So I jumped on my pet whale and rode him for two hours.

When I got out, I said to myself, "What a fine job."
